Job Title: Influencer Marketing Internship

What’s happening at your internship?

I am working for AMF Media, a marketing and PR firm, as an influencer marketing intern. This position is new for the company so I have gotten to involve myself in many departments from social media to communications to app development all of which I have gained a lot of insight from. At this point I have gotten to focus on more specialized work with a new component of the company called Neufluence, which is a micro-influencer marketplace that helps brands discover, connect, and partner with BIPOC and other socially diverse influencers and creators. In working in this start up component I have been able to work with a diverse group of content creators to learn about how to empower influencers of color and ensure they are paid fairly.

Why did you apply for this internship?

I applied for this internship because I was very inspired by the founder of AMF Media, Angela Fisher, and wanted to learn from her experience in the entertainment industry and marketing field. Additionally, the industry of influencer marketing sits at an intersection of many of my personal interests such as entertainment, data analysis, creative collaboration, and marketing, so I knew that this experience would offer me a comprehensive understanding of multiple fields I am drawn to and keep me engaged at every point of my time as an intern.

What is something you have learned from your internship that you didn’t expect?

Something that I was not expecting from this internship was the amount of freedom I have during the workday to self-manage and lead projects without assistance. While I have always thought I needed structure to maintain productivity and engagement I am finding that I really enjoy a freer structure and have improved my adaptability and self-motivation skills through having room for spontaneity and being encouraged to start my own initiatives.

What is most rewarding about your internship?

The most rewarding part of my internship is that I have been a part of a mission to empower women of color in a space that has been dominated by white voices, specifically by ensuring equal opportunity and just payment. I feel very proud to have worked directly with content creators and brands to advocate for fairness and encourage diversity.
