Internship: Internship in Puentes de Salud’s Bridges to the Arts Program

Puentes de Salud is seeking Spanish-speaking volunteers ​to​ ​serve​ ​as​ interns​ ​in​ ​their new Bridges to the Art​s ​program​ ​for​ ​3 and 4 year olds. Transportation is provided!

Description

We​ ​seek​ ​highly​ ​motivated​ ​individuals​ ​from​ ​all​ ​backgrounds​ ​to​ ​serve​ ​as​ ​interns​ ​in​ ​our​ ​after-school program​ ​for​ ​children​ ​ages​ ​3-4.​ ​​Puentes​ ​de​ ​Salud​​ ​​serves​ ​the​ ​rapidly​ ​growing​ ​Latino​ ​immigrant​ ​community of​ ​South​ ​Philadelphia​ ​through​ ​an​ ​integrated​ ​approach​ ​to​ ​health,​ ​education,​ ​and​ ​wellness.​ ​Our​ ​​education branch,​ ​​Puentes​ ​Hacia​ ​el​ ​Futuro​,​ ​is​ ​predicated​ ​upon​ ​the​ ​well-evidenced​ ​fact​ ​that​ ​education​ ​is​ ​inextricably tied​ ​to​ ​the​ ​health​ ​of​ ​individuals​ ​and​ ​communities.​ ​​Our​ ​mission​ ​is​ ​to​ ​holistically​ ​support​ ​the​ ​education​ ​and development​ ​of​ ​our​ ​community’s​ ​children​ ​to​ ​foster​ ​positive​ ​long-term​ ​health​ ​outcomes.​ ​​Interns​ ​will​ ​have the​ ​unparalleled​ ​opportunity​ ​to​ ​work​ ​and​ ​to​ ​learn​ ​at​ ​the​ ​intersection​ ​of​ ​social​ ​justice,​ ​migration,​ ​and​ ​urban education​ ​in​ ​a​ ​community-based,​ ​bilingual​ ​environment.​ ​Interns​ ​will​ ​be​ ​able​ ​to​ ​build​ ​close​ ​relationships with​ ​a​ ​small​ ​group​ ​of​ ​students​ ​and​ ​work​ ​closely​ ​as​ ​part​ ​of​ ​our​ ​team.​ ​Interns​ ​may​ ​use​ ​this​ ​work​ ​to​ ​fulfill academic​ ​field​ ​work,​ ​internship,​ ​or​ ​independent​ ​study​ ​requirements. 

Eligibility​ ​&​ ​Requirements

This​ ​internship​ ​is​ ​available​ ​to​ ​a​ ​highly​ ​accomplished​ ​and​ ​responsible​ ​college​ ​or​ ​graduate​ ​student. Proficiency​ ​in​ ​Spanish​ ​is​ ​required,​ ​fluency​ ​desired.

Orientation:​ ​​October​ ​24th​ ​or​ ​26th,​ ​3-5:30pm

Sessions:​ ​​October​ ​31st​ ​-​ ​December​ ​14th,​ ​2017;​ ​January​ ​23rd​ ​-​ ​May​ ​10th,​ ​2018 

Hours:​ ​​We​ ​prefer​ ​interns​ ​to​ ​participate​ ​for​ ​an​ ​entire​ ​academic​ ​year,​ ​but​ ​we​ ​are​ ​also​ ​able​ ​to​ ​involve those​ ​who​ ​can​ ​only​ ​commit​ ​to​ ​one​ ​semester​ ​at​ ​a​ ​time. 

Location:​​ ​Southwark​ ​School​ ​at​ ​1835​ ​S.​ ​9th​ ​St.​ ​Philadelphia.

Transportation

LILAC | Civic Engagement provides transportation to and from Puentes de Salud on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Vans leave Pembroke Arch at 2PM and return at 6PM.

In​ ​order​ ​to​ ​work​ ​with​ ​Puentes,​ ​please​ ​follow​ ​these​ ​steps​ ​by October 15th, 2017​:

1. Fill​ ​out​ ​the​ ​​PHF​ ​Early​ ​Childhood​ ​Intern​ ​Registration.

2. Complete​ ​a​ ​PA​ ​criminal​ ​background​ ​check​ ​and​ ​child​ ​abuse​ ​clearance​ ​-​ ​both​ ​are​ ​free​ ​and​ ​online: PHF​ ​Clearances​ ​Instructions​.​ ​When​ ​emailing​ ​Puentes,​ ​specify​ ​‘early​ ​childhood’​ ​in​ ​the​ ​subject​ ​line.
