Job: Family Outreach Specialist at Family Services in Norristown, PA

Family Services is looking for people who can facilitate, communicate, and collaborate with parents and youth in school, home and community settings. A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field is preferred. Applicants who are fluent in Spanish (oral, written and ability to translate) are encouraged to apply. This position is primarily daytime hours with some early morning and/or evening hours each month.

This position requires a highly self-motivated individual who can function effectively in a team environment. You will have an opportunity to use the communication and engagement skills you have acquired to assist families and youth to reduce the factors that contribute to chronic truancy. You will work closely with school districts in Montgomery County. If you have managed to find a balance between being empathetic with clients of all backgrounds and pairing that empathy with effective decisions that achieve positive outcomes, you will fit well on their team.

The Family Outreach Specialist is a full-time position responsible for engaging, assisting and supporting families. The goal of their project is to engage youth and their families to address the root causes of truancy in order to increase chances of success in school and in life.  A special emphasis on their truancy reduction project is to link children and families to much-needed behavioral health services.

The objectives of the project are as follows:

  • Identify the root causes of truancy
  • Assist at-risk youth and families to access behavioral health services
  • Increase rates of school attendance
  • Intervene in youth’s progression from truancy into more serious problem behaviors
  • Prevent school drop-out
  • Increase chances for academic success and high school graduation
  • Increase involvement of parents to support the education of their child
