Chemistry major Angela Zhang '19 won a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Award to teach in Taitung, Taiwan.
Starting in the fall, Angela will spend 11 months working as an assistant English language teacher. In addition to teaching, she also will be conducting a service project. She hopes to provide informal, fun, play-based/experimental science education for students. She's interested in incorporating local environmental knowledge into the service project and to contextualize the project in Taiwan's complex history of environmental (in)justice, colonialism, economic development, and advances in democracy and human rights.
Fulbright Grants are awarded for post-graduate research and study abroad or for positions such as English Teaching Assistants in schools or universities. An applicant must be the recipient of a bachelor’s degree before the beginning date of the grant.
