Annie Wilson’s 'Lovertits' Comes to Bryn Mawr

February 4, 2016

Lovertits

Annie Wilson’s dance theater piece Lovertits, which was a hit at the 2014 Fringe Festival, had a sold-out run at Bryn Mawr’s Hepburn Teaching Theater from January 28-30.

This piece of dance theater merges and abstracts burlesque, clown, improvisation, cabaret, and postmodern dance to create a work that probes the viewer’s conceptions of sexuality, the act of looking, and the body politic.

Centering on the body as a site of exploration, Annie Wilson’s choreography challenges the interplay between sexuality and nudity, using the performers’ bodies as puppets and a makeshift map.

The performers, Christina Gesualdi, Jenna Horton, and Ilse Zoerb weave in and out of the audience, transforming into different characters, all the while exploring what it means to be a woman with a body.

“It caught the audience in its moments of vulnerability,” said Erica Rice ’17, a Bryn Mawr student who attended Lovertits, adding that the performance created “an invitation to share the radical reminder of the secret wonderful weird of our own being.”

In addition to the performances, there was a brunch and roundtable discussion with Annie Wilson on Sunday where students were invited to discuss the piece with the choreographer.

Lovertits was part of the Bryn Mawr College Performing Arts Series, and tickets were complimentary for all Tri-Co students, faculty, and staff.
