April Board of Trustees Meeting Report

May 12, 2025

The below message was sent to faculty, staff, and students on May 12, 2025.

Dear Bryn Mawr Community,

As is our practice, we write to update you on the most recent Board of Trustees' meeting, which was held April 25-26, 2025.

Upon arrival on campus, the Board participated in events associated with the ARCH Project’s unveiling of Nekisha Durrett’s installation in the Cloisters. On Friday, the Board met in plenary sessions to discuss finances and the College’s fiscal year 2025-2026 budget. Recently selected campus planning consultant DLR Group presented to the Board regarding the Comprehensive Campus Plan. The Board then joined community members at the annual New Scholarship Celebration on the renovated first floor of Canaday Library.

At its Regular Meeting on Saturday, the Board and campus representatives heard reports from standing committees, subcommittees, or working groups (descriptions of each committee's responsibilities are available online.)

Audit Committee: As it does every year, the committee reviewed a plan for the fiscal year audit. During their committee meeting, they approved an engagement plan presented by Grant Thornton, the College’s audit team, a recommendation subsequently confirmed by the full Board.

Buildings and Grounds Committee: The committee heard an update on the Student Spaces Project from Assistant Director, Facilities and Campus Architect Jessica Vitali. Associate Director of Project Management and Energy, Jim McGaffin, provided updates on current projects, including the Park Science renovations and the Rhoads Patio reconstruction. The committee also discussed the selection process of DLR Group for the Comprehensive Campus Plan, highlighting DLR’s approach to campus engagement and experience in higher education. The committee expects to receive the plan’s first draft in early 2026. Vice President for Finance and Administration Samir Datta shared a new approach to capital plan budgeting. Director of Facilities Services Nina Bisbee discussed Lower Merion Zoning Code updates.

Committee on Trustees: The committee approved recommendations of trustees for election and reelection to the Board for next year. The full Board subsequently approved the following recommendations: Keana Bloomfield '18 as Young Alumna Trustee, Nicole Huynh '06 as a trustee nominee of the Alumnae Association, Dana Thompson '94 as an ex officio representative while serving as President-elect of the Alumnae Association, Rhea Graham '74 and Sara Moreno '95 for second terms as trustees, Linda Hill '77 and Nanar Yoseloff '97 for re-election as special representatives, and Patrick McCarthy Ph.D. '81 as emeritus trustee.

External Relations Committee: The committee discussed preparations for the College’s next comprehensive fundraising campaign, including the development of priorities and goals as well as volunteer structures.

Finance Committee: The committee discussed and approved recommendations for the FY26 budget, which was subsequently approved by the Board. The Committee also discussed some of the College’s revenue sources.

Academic Affairs Working Group: The group met with the Committee on Academic Priorities (CAP) and the Faculty Advisory Council. CAP discussed their annual report with the group. The combined groups continued their conversation about the College’s next chapter, asking what undergraduates who will enter the job market in the 2030s, 2040s, and 2050s need to know. They discussed how we can continue aligning priorities across the institution to operationalize our mission best and prepare undergraduate and graduate students after graduation.

In addition, the Board met in a closed session to review tenure and promotion cases. The Board voted to confirm the reappointment with tenure and promotion to associate professor of Nora E. Taplin-Kaguru (Sociology) and the promotion to professor of Airea D. Matthews (Creative Writing and Africana Studies) effective at the start of the fall 2025 semester. We invite you to read more about their work.

As ever, we are grateful for all of the ways our community, including students, staff, faculty, Board members, alums, parents, friends, and so many more, works together in ongoing support of Bryn Mawr's mission.

With thanks,
Wendy and Cynthia
