Please read the below for a reminder of the procedures the College follows in the event of severe weather.
General
In severe weather, the College will communicate in the following ways to keep the community informed of the situation on campus:
- Call-in emergency number: 610-526-7310
- Messages on the College website
- Everbridge emergency alert system - email and text messages
- Broadcast emails will also be sent when there is a bad weather condition that occurs during the day.
The following information will be communicated:
- Whether classes have been canceled at the Undergraduate College, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research
- Whether staff members who have not been designated by their supervisors as essential should report to work
- Whether there is transportation service to Haverford and Swarthmore Colleges
- Which College buildings are open
- Other important emergency information
College Website
The College has a bad weather web page storm.brynmawr.edu. The page will be updated periodically during periods of bad weather. The following departments will update information specific to their activities: Facilities Services, The Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research, Dining Services, Residential Life, Information Services and the Libraries, Athletics, Health Center, and Transportation.
When the bad weather condition occurs overnight, the message will be on the College emergency number by 6 a.m.
When a bad weather day has been designated all College events and tours are also cancelled for that day and evening since they cannot be appropriately staffed.
The Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research will make a separate determination of class cancellations. When conditions are such that classes might be cancelled, students should call 610-520-2600.
For Faculty
When Bryn Mawr College announces that the campus is closed, classes are cancelled for both faculty and students.
When the weather is not sufficiently bad to cause the campus to be closed, but faculty are unable to get to campus and hold class, faculty should communicate directly with their students via Moodle or via their Bionic class roster.
For Students
When there is bad weather, but all classes are not cancelled, some faculty members may have to cancel their classes. Faculty members cancelling classes will communicate directly with students by email.
During weather emergencies, students should remain in their dormitory. Students will be notified if they should move to another location.
Students should check the College webpage storm.brynmawr.edu for updates about specific departments and activities.
Call Campus Safety if there are any emergency situations in the dormitories.
Under no circumstances should students light candles in the dormitories. Candles are a very serious fire hazard.
Students should have a flashlight in their room. Hall Advisors are issued flashlights and there are a limited number of flashlights available in Campus Safety during emergencies.
During weather emergencies, the dormitories have first priority in clearing snow or debris. Therefore, the Library, Campus Center and other buildings might not be opened until well after the dormitories are cleared. Buildings cannot be opened until all entrances and exits, including emergency exits, are cleared.
Power Outages
During a power outage community members should check for a text message. For emergency information, students should check with their hall advisor, call Campus Safety at 610-526-7310, use a campus call box, or go the Campus Safety Office located in the Maloney Building
