Bryn Mawr Hosts Seven Sisters Conference

November 17, 2016

Bryn Mawr College hosted the annual Seven Sisters Conference on Saturday, Nov. 12. Close to 60 representatives from the historic women's colleges congregated for workshops, talks, and panels focused on student leadership.

The conference was an opportunity for students from the Seven Sisters colleges to hold dialogues on the relationship among the schools and the issues affecting their campuses.

Workshops were held in the morning, and topics included Instituting Racial Justice, Spirituality at Liberal Arts Institutions, and SGA Inclusivity and Exclusivity.

The conference ended with a reception held in Thomas Great Hall, during which Bryn Mawr President Kim Cassidy and keynote speaker Assistant Dean Stephanie Nixon gave talks about effective leadership on campus.

The Seven Sisters Conference Planning Committee, which includes Christabel Koomson ’18, Hannah Chinn ’19, Namrata Basu ’19, Taylor Milne ’17, and Emily Spiegel ’18 spent several months organizing the weekend. Emily, the head of committee, was pleased with the outcome.

“Delegates got an opportunity to compare issues at their own schools with those at similar institutions,” says Emily. “We bonded over our common past, and looked with optimism into the coming future.”
