Diversity Conversation: Safe Space: Creating Environments Where Everyone Can Thrive

November 19, 2015

The following email was sent to faculty, students, and staff by Assistant Dean and Director of Leadership and Community Development Vanessa Christman on Tuesday, November 17.

In Eboo Patel's A Common Life, he writes, “building societies where people from different identities live in equal dignity is one of the greatest challenges of our time.”

Why is the goal of creating facilitative environments where all community members feel safe such a challenge? What understanding and resources do we need to meet this challenge? What kind of environment does Bryn Mawr College aspire to be for community members?  What responsibility do faculty and staff have in creating a safe environment? What role should students play in supporting and listening to their peers?

Join us this Friday for "Safe Space: Creating Environments Where Everyone Can Thrive." We'll look at the pursuit of safe space on our campus and the role we each play in creating such environments.
