Illuminating their Futures: Summer 2025 Internships

August 12, 2025

Each summer, the Career and Civic Engagement Center sponsors more than 100 internships for students to apply their Bryn Mawr education in a meaningful work environment, providing opportunities that would be difficult to pursue without funding support. From environmental justice to software development, from Seattle to Ghana, these internships encourage students to pursue their interests beyond the bounds of the classroom and prepare them to spread their light in their post-grad careers.

Serving their Communities

Many Mawrters choose to spend their summers giving back to their communities, locally and abroad. For three students, a learning experience in the classroom sparked a passion to make a change in the world.

Sophie working at a food bank

Sophie Podolin ’27

Sophie’s work as a community food access intern with Philabundance has narrowed the critical gap caused by the school year ending and students losing access to free lunches by delivering fresh, nutritious meals to families throughout the summer months. Part of her inspiration for applying for this internship came from her 360 Course Cluster, “Taste,” where she saw firsthand how food systems reflect broader issues of equity, access, and identity.

Leila working at a booth promoting access to reproductive healthcare

Leila Brown ’27

As a reproductive healthcare advocate at the Northwest Abortion Access Fund in Washington, Leila has spent her summer engaging in direct action to break down barriers to reproductive healthcare. She first started working with NWAAF through a Praxis self-designed independent study in Spring 2025, where she combined her internship with academic work on the history of 21st-century reproductive healthcare activism.

Anna and fellow interns standing on a street in front of a mountain

Anna Roth '27

Anna was based in Chile this summer, advocating for children's rights as a research and design intern with Good Neighbors, an international nonprofit. This experience helped her consider how almost anything can be considered through the lens of her History of Art major, as art is central to many spaces that aim to create change.

Theresah Tawiah ’27

Through an internship with Akropong Government Polyclinic in her home country of Ghana, Theresah has gained hands-on experience in vaccine distribution, disease control, and health monitoring. Having previously worked at the clinic around the COVID-19 pandemic, she saw firsthand how clear communication and local trust can shape health outcomes. She's learned that effective public health work goes beyond data and policies; it’s about people. Building trust, listening with empathy, and communicating clearly are just as vital as knowing the science.

I’ve seen how small actions can make a big difference. This experience has taught me that true impact often starts at the community level.

Spotlight on Sustainability

Many Mawrters with an interest in climate justice spend their summers in Germany, which has become a world leader in the transition to renewable energy. Read on for examples of how students spent their summers abroad with environmentally-focused internships.

Emma working in a lab

Emma Blersch ’27

Emma spent her summer in the lab at the Center for Interactive Materials and Bioinspired Technologies at the University of Freiburg. Working under the tutelage of professors and two post-bacc students, she is pursuing a personal research project on bio-inspired polymer-based actuators and their potential in the field of sustainability.

Priita leading a tour in Germany

Priita Peterson ’26

As an environmental studies major, Priita is interested in urban sustainability and environmental justice. She has always been fascinated by Germany's “Green City” of Freiburg, so her internship there this summer, developing a tour of the city about climate adaptation for high school students, has proved to be perfect for learning about innovative city planning and transportation.

Ellen working at an informative booth

Ellen Valliere ’27

Ellen’s internship at the UNESCO Black Forest Biosphere Reserve in Schönau im Schwarzwald, Germany, has put her on the ground supporting global climate justice. As a public relations intern, Ellen's community outreach is helping to ensure that a mosaic of forests, meadows, pastures, and villages more than 1,000 years old may live and grow together long into the future.

Saniya Mukhambetkaliyeva ’27

Saniya loved her first summer working as an associate software developer intern at Google in 2024 so much that she chose to return this year and continue delving into web development frameworks and data optimization strategies. Beyond developing the technical skills she's built as a computer science major, Saniya has appreciated the opportunity to focus on the value of collaboration and supporting others while showcasing the importance of your own work to a team.

Vivian Bloom ’26

Vivian’s summer as a collections intern at Girard College was inspired by her interest in approaching English from a historical perspective and a course she took last semester entitled “Moby Dick.” Her project explores the lives of sailors who worked for Stephen Girard, a merchant, banker, and philanthropist in early America, and the wealthiest man in America when he died.

I love puzzles and this project felt like one big historical puzzle. It was sometimes tough to figure out, but it was so satisfying when the pieces fit together.

From Classroom to Career

As a liberal arts institution, Bryn Mawr uniquely prepares its students to enter the workforce as well-rounded, confident leaders. Hear how a few students are building upon their education to set themselves up to flourish in their fields.

Juanita working as a pharmacy tech

Juanita Beenyi ’26

Juanita’s chemistry major set her up well to work as a pharmacy technician in Swedru, Ghana, this summer. After two research-focused summer internships, she decided she was ready for a more hands-on, clinical experience—something that would allow her to connect directly with patients and explore the human side of healthcare.

Sophie Sweeting ’26

As a marketing and communications intern with G Adventures, Sophie created campaigns celebrating the National Parks and assisted with securing brand partnerships. She has found that her Bryn Mawr education, particularly the skills she has learned as an English major, is helping her succeed at this job. The ability to write—and to write well—is invaluable and has helped her in every part of this internship.

Kasey standing in front of a Voces Latinas sign

Kasey Quiche ’27

As a sociology and political science major, Kasey wanted to spend her summer gaining direct, hands-on legal experience while contributing to work that truly matters to her. As a legal service intern, she has helped newly arrived immigrants with all forms of legal consultations at Voces Latinas, a nonprofit organization with a mission to reduce the rates of HIV transmission and violence among Latinx immigrant communities.

Emily Chau ’26

Emily’s work as a student research trainee in the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Center for Autism Research (CAR) began this Spring as a part of the Praxis program and was inspired in part by her family's experience with autism. Emily has seen firsthand the outcomes of the lab's research through the comprehensive care and supportive groundwork that CHOP has provided to her family and others with close connections to autism. She wanted to give back to this organization while also serving the autism community using the analytical skills she has gained as a psychology major at Bryn Mawr.
