Julia Wellner '92 majored in Geology at Bryn Mawr and is now an assistant professor at the University of Houston. She is the primary investigator from the university in a $1 million National Science Foundation study of the Thwaites Glacier.

“The greatest uncertainty in projections of future sea level rise come from the Western Antarctic, and in particular from this glacier,” Wellner said. “We’re concerned that the glacial retreat is accelerating and may be irreversible.”
