Mary Rorro '91 Composes Theme Song for Centennial Congress of the Medical Women’s International Association
Mary Rorro '91 has composed the theme song for the International Centennial Congress of the American Medical Women's Association and Medical Women's International Association Centennial Meeting in New York. She will perform her solo with the assembly of women physicians from throughout the world at the end of July 2019.
Rorro will also play solo viola for the Parade of Nations in the Opening Ceremony and Gala Dinner, and make a presentation about her therapeutic music program for veterans, "A Few Good Notes."
Rorro is a psychiatrist with the New Jersey Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare System who treats patients dealing with PTSD and other issues. In 2018, she was recognized at the New Jersey State Governor’s Jefferson Awards for her work.
A music major with a minor in biology at Bryn Mawr, Rorro often plays music for patients as part of therapy.
"Playing Flos Campi by Vaughn Williams with the Haverford-Bryn Mawr orchestra, and Bruch’s Nachtgesang with Professors Frank Mallory and Sharon Burgmayer, were just a few of the magical musical moments I cherished while at Bryn Mawr. I was honored to be the first recipient of the Performing Arts Prize awarded by the college.This recognition, and Byrn Mawr’s tenet of community service, inspire me to continue to give to others through music.
