Both the Philadelphia Gay News and Generocity have written about the new film Expanding Sanctuary by Kristal Sotomayor '17.

The film profiles Juntos, a Latinx immigrant rights organization that successfully lobbied the city of Philadelphia to stop sharing information from its database of arrests (known by the acronym PARS) with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

From the Philadelphia Gay News Article:

The daughter of Peruvian immigrants, Sotomayor said she was intent on documenting "people making the change they want to see and creating actual policy change that protects families."

"Latinos are often portrayed as victims," she added. "I didn’t want this to be sad or show people crying. I wanted it to be a positive, happy story. The community is so much stronger than what is put out into the world."

A Comparative Literature major with a minor in Film Studies, Kristal was profiled in the Summer 2017 Alumnae Bulletin
