Dear Members of the Campus Community,
We are writing together to share an important update that reflects the strength of our joint commitment to student life at the College.
Earlier this academic year, the Self-Governance Association (SGA) formally requested the opportunity to review whether certain programs, activities, and services currently supported through the SGA fee might instead—or additionally—be funded through other College resources. This request prompted thoughtful dialogue, careful review of budget line items, and collaborative consideration among student leaders and College administration.
As a result of this review, the College has identified up to $140,000 in resources for the current fiscal year for the initiatives requested by SGA. These resources will be managed by the Dean of Student Life Office. Conversations will continue to address future SGA and College budgets for student life support.
This investment affirms the essential role that student traditions, programs, and opportunities for engagement with one another play in shaping the student experience and reflects our shared responsibility to support them sustainably. It also demonstrates shared governance in action—where student voice, institutional stewardship, and mutual respect come together to inform meaningful decisions.
We are grateful for the shared advocacy and partnership that shaped this process and for the collaborative spirit that guided these conversations. Particular thanks and appreciation go to SGA Co-Treasurers Zoe Beer and Jet Taylor for their significant leadership and effort, as well as to Chief of Staff Shannon Kearns, Interim Dean of the Undergraduate College Tomiko Jenkins, and Interim Dean of Student Life Denine Rocco for their work on behalf of our community. We remain committed to ensuring that our traditions, student engagement, and community-building opportunities continue to thrive. Esénia will elaborate more at the Representative Council Meeting on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at 8:10 p.m. in Rhoads Dining Hall.
Best Wishes,
