Over the past year, Bryn Mawr College has completed a series of updates to student gathering and living spaces across campus, improving comfort, functionality, and opportunities for connection.
The Campus Center’s community spaces have been completely refreshed.
As part of the project, the former game room has been transformed into an inviting small lounge with new furniture and finishes. The main lounge also got a makeover, and is now outfitted with new area rugs and furniture, and both spaces were spruced up with a fresh coat of paint.
New furniture was also installed in the Campus Center mezzanine, and Special Collections staff are considering possible artwork for display on the walls.
At Schwartz Gym, students have new tables and seating in the lobby area just inside the entrance, providing a place to sit between classes and workouts.
The former coaches’ area on the first floor has been converted into a student-athlete lounge, offering a comfortable space for students to wait before practice and physical therapy appointments, or just to hang out with their teammates. New seating has also been added near the elevator on the second floor, providing yet another area for a small gathering.
The College worked with MBB Architects, an award-winning, women-owned architecture and design firm based in New York City, on the project. MBB gathered input from students during campus visits and through surveys. MBB also worked with an advisory committee of students and staff on the project.
Beyond these core project areas, several additional student-focused improvements were completed over the past year.
In the basement of Rockefeller Hall, an underused storage area was renovated into dedicated club storage. The space now features new flooring, lighting, and large storage racks that allow student organizations to securely store equipment.
Several residence hall common spaces also saw improvements recently, including refreshed paint and refinished floors in lounges across multiple residence halls. Facilities staff are currently developing furniture concepts for residence hall common areas, with plans to present options to students later this spring. Installation is anticipated during the summer months.
Together, these updates reflect ongoing efforts to enhance the shared spaces that support student life, collaboration, and community across campus.
