What’s happening at your internship?

I joined the Entegra team at a very exciting time, as Entegra will be rebranding this summer and there is a lot of work that needs to be done. Rebranding takes so much time, labor, and resources and that is why I have been helping out as much as I can. During the week I can get tasked to do something fun like writing the newsletters or something that isn't as fun but needs to be done. Regardless of the task, I am always so excited to learn and help. One of the more exciting work things I have done has been proposing new ideas for our social media. I wrote a proposal, made graphics, and presented my social media ideas to our team. Now that my ideas have been approved, I am so excited to bring them to life and to contribute original concepts to Entegra.

Why did you apply for this internship?

I applied for this internship because although I am an English major, I have always had an interest in marketing. This internship stood out to me because it would allow me to use my writing skills to learn about the marketing world.

What has been your favorite part of this internship?

My favorite part of my internship has got to be my co-workers and how our marketing team works. Everyone is incredibly kind, helpful, and intelligent. No matter how much work needs to be done, Entegra’s marketing and communications team is always in a good mood and ready to work. Before starting my internship, I was afraid of making mistakes and asking for help - I learned quite quickly that there was no harm in asking questions and that making mistakes would always turn into learning moments. Additionally, everyone is fantastic at communicating with one another - probably what makes them all so great at teamwork. Finally, I have really loved working with such a diverse group of people. Our VP is also Brazilian and being able to occasionally speak to him in my mother tongue has definitely made Entegra a more familiar place!

Working remotely for the first time? What has that experience been like for you?

Working remotely has been great, but it hasn't always been easy. Working during the summer from an apartment without an air conditioner has not been an easy task. For the first couple of weeks, I would wake up at 7:30 a.m, to make sure that I would be at the Park Science Building to work with an a.c. by 9 a.m. I then decided that commuting to campus every day was too much of a hassle and purchased a couple of fans so I could continue to work from home. After that, I had one more challenge to overcome. I did not have a desk and a work chair! And although the fan was nice...I was still working on a small dining table and sitting on a hard wooden chair for 8 hours a day. I had made up my mind and was going to buy a chair and desk for my apartment, but I got lucky. My neighbour was moving out and was kind enough to give me their desk and office chair for free. Now I have a nice desk area in front of my kitchen windows and a comfortable place to sit and work.
