Susan Dackerman, M.A. '91, Ph.D. '95, Named Director of Stanford's Cantor Museum

Susan Dackerman, M.A. '91, Ph.D. '95, has been appointed the John and Jill Freidenrich Director of the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts at Stanford University. Dackerman received her Ph.D. from Bryn Mawr in History of Art.

Dackerman earned an A.B. in art history from Vassar College. It was during a graduate school internship that she knew she wanted a career in museums, she told the Stanford News. She recalls, “It was as an intern at the Fogg [Museum at Harvard] that I realized it was possible to make scholarly work and ideas available in a public forum.”

A scholar of the German Renaissance, she begins in September at the Cantor, which is one of the most widely visited university museums in the country, with 250,000 visitors a year, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. 

Dackerman was a Getty scholar and consortium professor at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles, and served as the Carl A. Weyerhaeuser Curator of Prints at the Harvard Art Museums from 2005 to 2015.
