Bryn Mawr’s Department of Transnational Italian Studies has once again received a grant from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Rome. Over the past 15 years, the department has successfully secured this same competitive grant five times, raising more than $50,000.
The grant was awarded to the department in recognition of its cutting-edge curricular innovations, including the design of courses that reflect the discipline’s transformation toward a more inclusive field, as well as mentorship programs that motivate and support students in fostering social change, diversity awareness, and a sustained commitment to linguistic and cultural diversity as an intellectual asset.
Serafina Di Rosa, director of the Education Office at the Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia, visited the department in January to present the grant.
Transnational Italian Studies at Bryn Mawr
The Transnational Italian Studies Department at Bryn Mawr offers an interdisciplinary and transnational course of study that explores the works of canonical Italian authors alongside traditionally marginalized voices, bringing together issues of gender and sexuality, language and class, race and ethnicity. Students may complete a major or minor in Transnational Italian Studies.
