Bryn Mawr students Caitlin Bauer ’16 and Lyntana Brougham ‘16 will be in Portland, Ore., next week to take part in the Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation’s 2015 Conference.

Caitlin’s poster presentation is: "Effects of nitrogen enrichment on plant functional traits and phenology in smooth cordgrass, Spartina alterniflora."

A senior biology major and an environmental studies minor, Caitlin has been doing research with Assistant Professor of Biology Tom Mozdzer since the summer after her freshman year. During the summer she takes part in fieldwork at Plum Island, Mass., as a part of the TIDE project, a long term fertilization study on salt marshes.

Also a biology major, Lyntana will give a presentation on "Mangrove habitat modification results in persistent long-term changes in nursery fish density and diversity.” While she has worked with Mozdzer for the past year and a half, starting with the summer of 2014, Lyntana is presenting the results from a study conducted during a 360° course field trip to Belize (spring break 2015).

The Mozdzer Ecology lab conducts interdisciplinary research combining plant ecophysiology, biogeochemistry, and population genetics to better understand how wetland ecosystems may respond to global change. Students interested in working with Assistant Professor Mozdzer should contact him directly.

Caitlin and Lyntana received Sherman Fairchild Conference Funding to attend the conference.
