About our Online M.S.W.
Advance your career. Transform lives. Earn your M.S.W. online.
Bryn Mawr’s Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research launched its inaugural online Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree program in the fall of 2026. As one of the oldest social work schools in the country, our M.S.W. program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
The online M.S.W. program is a cohort-based, 22-month plan of study built around synchronous, virtual evening classes that emphasize the development of professional skills and in-depth practice experience. Graduates are prepared to become leaders in a variety of social work settings, such as government agencies, health care services, clinical practices, and non-profit organizations.

Affording Your Degree
As you embark on your graduate school journey, we invite you to look beyond the sticker price, as Bryn Mawr has a long history of providing generous financial support to admitted students. Students typically finance their master's degree through a combination of federal student aid, Bryn Mawr College social work grant, private loans, and employer tuition programs. Admissions decisions are not contingent upon an applicant's level of financial need.
Practicum Education
Practicum education provides students with supervised observational learning and practical “hands-on” social work experience in preparation for professional social work practice.
The Office of Practicum Education assigns students to their practicum placement, working in conjunction with students to ensure that their practicum experience will support their academic coursework and enhance their professional growth. Your practicum placement is a significant part of your academic record and, as such, must originate from GSSWSR’s Office of Practicum Education; students do not arrange their own placements and agencies do not interview students in advance of contact with the Office of Practicum Education.
Employment Based Practicum
In some cases, students may use a current employment site as a practicum education setting. Students must be employed in a human services capacity and the site must be able to meet the requirements of a social work practicum placement. Students must be employed by the site for a minimum of three months before beginning their work-site practicum placement and have completed the probationary work period for which the placement is sought. In these instances, the GSSWSR works closely with the site and the student to establish a learning experience that recognizes the complexity of the student-employee role, while providing educationally rich advanced learning opportunities for the student to apply the principles, knowledge, and practice skills learned in their courses.
Employment-Based Placements (EBP) must be reviewed and approved by the Practicum Office.
