What are you most excited about as you leave Bryn Mawr?

I’m excited to take all of the personal and academic skills Bryn Mawr has taught me. Whether it’s the research experience I’ve gained or the self-confidence I’ve been able to develop because of the support and encouragement from the entire Bryn Mawr community, I know these are all skills I will carry and continue to develop with me in graduate school and beyond Bryn Mawr.

What will you miss most about Bryn Mawr?

The community! The thing that drew me to Bryn Mawr and made me choose Bryn Mawr in the first place was the community; the level of support, encouragement, and even push to go beyond what we think is possible is unparalleled is so special at Bryn Mawr, so I very much will miss the feeling of community, camaraderie, and friendship.

Any advice for incoming students?

Don’t be afraid to take any and all of the classes you want. Whether it’s a course/professor you know you enjoy or something entirely new, the liberal arts and Bryn Mawr experience is set up to ensure you do not have to limit yourself, but rather you can venture out (and we encourage you to do so) and receive amazing education and support in all subjects and aspects.

What about your Bryn Mawr experience was essential but unexpected?

The liberal arts experience of Bryn Mawr was essential to my education. Had I not been pushed outside of my comfort zone to take a new course and embrace the liberal arts experience, I would have never taken a linguistics course and realized how passionate I am about language education and differences in how we understand languages.

Studying Linguistics at Bryn Mawr

There are 7,000 languages in the world, and we're interested in studying them all. Linguistics is the scientific study of language — we develop techniques to explore patterns that all human languages have in common and investigate the ways in which each is unique. Our explorations yield insights not only into languages but also into the nature of the human mind.
