""

Name: Tinodiwanashe Nguruve
Class Year: 2022
Major: Computer Science and Mathematics
Hometown: Harare, Zimbabwe

Internship Organization: PIMCO
Job Title: Software engineering, machine learning Intern
Location: California (remote)

What’s happening at your internship?

I work with the Tech core engineering team in the client development and intelligence team and my work starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m. every weekday. For the beginning of my project I had to set up a meeting with the business users to learn more about what they wanted their product to be. This product is going to be used by them to make faster and informed decisions in PIMCO’s fast paced environment. As I am using python to build my natural language processing product I'm also having recurring meetings with my managers and bi-weekly meetings with my stakeholders. These meetings help me reevaluate my end product and help me stay on track with my project.

Why did you apply for this internship?

I was curious to know the day-to-day work of a full time engineer before I graduated college and PIMCO gave me the opportunity to work with the Core engineering team as well as the business team.

Was there anything special about how you found this internship?

I interviewed with my best friend and we both got offers!

What has working remotely for the first time been like for you?

With working remotely comes a lot of personal accountability. No one is going to push you to do your work on time but if you don’t do your work during the allocated time then you will have to commit to doing it off the pay clock which is more daunting.
