Prospective Students
M.S.S. applicants interested in financial aid should indicate so on their admissions application. Plan to complete your financial aid application at the same time as your admissions application.
- Submit your admissions application to the GSSWSR. Your due dates for materials is dependent on whether or not you are completing the Advanced Standing Program, or the standard Master's Degree program. Indicate your interest in financial aid on your admissions application.
- Apply for graduate federal aid by completing the FAFSA (use Bryn Mawr College code #003237).
- We strongly encourage providing consent for the Department of Education to receive an individual's FTI direct from the IRS. It is important to note that if an application does not provide consent, the student will be ineligible for federal aid.
- Report social security numbers and full legal names as they appear on your social security card. Without them, the U.S. Department of Education cannot process your financial aid results.
- Review your financial aid award letter and make your plan to pay your remaining out-of-pocket costs.
- Determine your out-of-pocket costs. These are listed on your financial aid award letter, or you can subtract your aid from the total cost of your program.
- Explore additional funding opportunities such as outside scholarships or private alternative loans.
- If you need help planning, you can meet with Bryn Mawr's Financial Wellness Counselor. You can also speak with your Financial Aid Counselor for any questions about your financial aid package.

Frequently Asked Questions
Grants and loans are calculated based on the cost and number of courses in which you enroll and are billed for each term. These awards do not apply to waived, test-out, or transfer credit courses. If course enrollment is changed during a given term, your financial aid award will be adjusted accordingly. Social Work Grant is awarded for a maximum of 18 units
Your award having two unsubsidized loans mean you were awarded for a borrower-based academic year. The borrower-based academic year (BBAY) allows you to borrow more through federal loan programs. Your initial loan is calculated using the Summer and Fall terms as one loan period and Spring as a second loan period. You will have two equal disbursements for Summer and Fall. For BBAY awards, Spring begins a new, separate loan period, and your loan funds will be disbursed in one payment. Remember, loan funds must always be applied toward your bill first. Refunds are only calculated after the bill is paid in full. The amount that you borrow in the Spring term will reduce the amount of eligibility you have left to borrow for the following Summer term. Students are only eligible for the BBAY if they maintain at least half-time enrollment for consecutive summer, fall and spring semesters in the same award year.
Additional loan opportunities are available through the Federal Graduate PLUS Loan or a Private Alternative Loan (from a lender of your choice) to help meet your additional costs. These loans require a separate application and credit check.
