Acres of Skin: Albert Kligman, Holmsberg and the Abuse of Scientific Power
This teach-in will describe and reflect upon experiments conducted on men incarcerated at Holmesburg Prison in Philadelphia under the direction of dermatologist Albert Kligman from 1951-1974.
Using Allen Hornblum's 1998 book, Acres of Skin, as a starting point, students and faculty from BIOL B111 will describe experiments conducted on men incarcerated at Holmesburg Prison in Philadelphia under the direction of dermatologist Albert Kligman from 1951 to 1974, and lead a discussion considering the importance of this history.
