“Between Dung and Blood” Book Talk with Alumna Manuela Ceballos
Please join the Program in Middle Eastern, Central Asian, and North African Studies along with the Spanish Department for a special lecture from Bryn Mawr College alumna Manuela Ceballos (University of Tennessee), who will be speaking on her new book “Between Dung and Blood” on Friday, April 24 from 4:00-6:00pm in Old Library 224. Dr. Ceballos’s talk focuses on Moroccan and Iberian societies during a period of social and religious upheaval in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. She examines the role of blood and bodily pollution through the stories of two saints: the Spanish Christian Teresa de Jesús and the Moroccan Muslim Sīdī Ridwān al-Januwī. Ceballos shows that the real and imagined border between geographies and religious traditions could, at times, be porous and conducive to shared beliefs.
Hot drinks, cookies, and snacks will be served. We hope to see you there!
