The Watsons

By Laura Wade

Based on the unfinished novel by Jane Austen

Directed by Meghan Brodie

Emma Watson’s brother is eager to see Emma and her sisters married before they become spinsters. The options are plentiful: Tom Musgrave, a charming scoundrel; Lord Osborne, a wealthy bore; and Mr. Howard, a clergyman. But Jane Austen never finished writing this novel and the characters don’t agree with the ending suggested by the Watsons’ new servant, our playwright in disguise. Now fully aware of their own agency, Jane Austen’s characters decide to chart their own unconventional paths. Emma’s sister discovers sex; the playwright has a meltdown; and exactly what is going on between Lady Osbourne and Nanny? This imaginative comedy by Laura Wade celebrates Jane Austen’s inimitable wit and legacy.

This non-professional production of The Watsons is presented by arrangement with Knight Hall Agency Ltd.
