Black History Month Keynote Speaker Dr. Patrice Douglas
Join us in the Great Hall on Feb. 28, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. for the Black History Month 2023 Keynote by Dr. Patrice Douglas, "Why I Am Not Allowed to See the Color Red."
"The keynote will highlight the struggle of individuals in the Black community not being able to embrace their vulnerability and emotions due to society stereotypes regarding their emotions. I'll be discussing the importance of anger and why Black people should embrace their anger and emotional connections instead of being ashamed of them; as well as how it impacts our mental health. Students will feel empowered to wear the label of anger and understand the historical perspective as to how our anger and vulnerability has created the changes we see today in this generation."

The student group Sisterhood* works with the ECC in taking the lead on much of Bryn Mawr's Black History Month programming. Many departments and offices contribute to and support the month's programming including Alumnae/i Relations and Development, Africana Studies, The Career and Civic Engagement Center, College Communications, Dining Services, LITS, the President's Office, the Pensby Center, and more.
