Please join us and take part in this vibrant conversation and explore what is possible for you in the world of politics during these challenging times.

Listen, learn and connect with an engaging alum who is on the frontline of politics. Learn about the varied careers in political science and how your degree and these new connections can advance your career. Are you interested in the many ways you can apply your degree in political science and explore postgraduate paths? Are you curious how varied political science fields can play a part in understanding our society and creating change? Bryn Mawr prepares students to become effective practitioners, advocates for justice, and leaders in the profession of politics. Our invited alum, Melissa Smiley '99, has significant leadership experience in the nonprofit, philanthropic, and government sectors. She earned her A.B. in Growth and Structure of Cities from Bryn Mawr College and holds master's degrees in public health and urban planning and a Ph.D. in epidemiological sciences from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Smiley was deputy chief of staff to Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan during the largest municipal bankruptcy in American History. She also spent five years leading strategy and operations at the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. She currently serves as chief of staff to Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.

Associate Professor Marissa Golden will be moderating this event.
