The Coalition for Anti-Racist Literacy (CARLA) First Meeting of the Semester

Since 2018, CARLA’s mission has been to create and sustain a shared, accountable, conceptual framework and toolkit for anti-racist literacy in classrooms and the community of the college. We convene activities for members who express a desire for space to reflect, reconnect, or refocus on antiracism efforts. In the past our work has consisted of Teach-ins on environmental justice, racism 101, and work equity, The ARCC or Anti Racism Collective Circles; Strike Collective and remembrance; recommendations for Flexner Lecture topics; preparing the Inclusion and Equity Framework; and proposing course evaluation questions concerning equity, amongst other activities. The work is non-hierarchical and driven by community priorities.
