Meredith Gamer Associate Professor, Department of Art History and Archaeology Columbia University "Thinking Through the Women: Objects and Subjects in William Hunter's Anatomy of the Human Gravid Uterus" This talk will explore the relationship between power, gender, and representation in William Hunter’s monumental obstetrical atlas, The Anatomy of the Human Gravid Uterus, Exhibited in Figures (1774). Drawing on a range of sources—from case notes and chalk drawings to fabric tokens and and screen prints—it will also seek to illuminate the long-neglected history of the women whose bodies the Anatomy represents.
