Exhibit Opening: Cecilia Paredes - Not ~ At Home

Oct 25
6:00pm - 8:00pm
On Campus Event - Canaday Library, 1912 Gallery

Cecilia Paredes Not ~ At Home will be on view in the 1912 Room in Canaday Library Oct. 25, 2023–June 2, 2024.

Organized by Emily Alesandrini, a Ph.D. student in History of Art, this exhibition celebrates the artist's exploration of her diasporic identity while prompting questions of restitution and repatriation. It asks where home is and should be for these artifacts. Nearly 1,000 ancient Peruvian artifacts came to the Anthropology department between 1964–66 as the gift of Ward M. Canaday, best known globally for his role in developing the military Jeep during World War II, and locally for his financing of the College's central library. Little is known about the collection's provenience (findspot) or provenance (ownership history).
