The Intersection of Infant Mental Health and Trauma Informed Social Work
President Kim Cassidy cordially invites you to an endowed lecture by Janet Shapiro, dean of the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research, Mary Hale Chase Professor in the Social Sciences, Social Work and Social Research, and director of the Center for Child and Family Wellbeing.
The applied field of infant and early childhood mental health (IECMH) has its roots in social work. Modern approaches to IECMH intersect with research on childhood adversity to highlight the impact of caregiving relationships, within the broader social context, on child health and mental health. This talk will briefly review the history of IECMH and describe how current research in developmental science and childhood traumatic stress expands our understanding and can inform new intervention approaches to support the wellbeing of children and their families.
