Preparing for a Museum Career: A Workshop for Graduate Students

This practical workshop is aimed at graduate students at all stages of experience who are interested in curatorial, conservation, and administrative roles in art museums. The workshop will cover job search advice for finding museum positions, preparing CVs and cover letters, identifying graduate school skills transferrable to museum roles, and preparing for interviews. An open discussion follows.

Dospěl Williams joined the staff of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston in 2024. Prior to that, she was Associate Curator of the Byzantine collection at Dumbarton Oaks, Washington DC. She completed a Ph.D. in Byzantine and Islamic art history and archaeology at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, and earned an ALM in Management at Harvard University, Extension School, with a focus on non-profit management and organizational behavior. Her professional training includes participation in the 2015 Mellon Foundation Seminar in Curatorial Practice at the Center for Curatorial Leadership and the 2018 German/American Provenance Research Exchange Program (PREP) for WWII-era research.
Dospěl Williams' exhibitions and publications have explored historical dress practice, late antique and medieval soft furnishings, gender, materiality and aesthetics through a focus on wearable objects and interior design. Throughout her scholarly and curatorial activities, she has been committed to making jewelry and textiles accessible to broad audiences through innovative programming, open-access publications, and engaging exhibitions that integrate the wearable arts with diverse media and artistic practices.
