The Riace Model against the Mafia: Key Words for Creating a Welcoming World
Professor Ricci has organized a talk in English within her course titled ITAL 255 Mafia and Organized Crimes dedicated to the Riace Project. Riace, a small coastal town in the region of Calabria, has become famous for its welcoming support of refugees. In this talk, Professor Stephanie Jed examines how, under Mayor Mimmo Lucano’s leadership, Riace has also modeled a new way of thinking. Experiencing the ways in which culture and collective prosperity are strengthened by an “economy of hope,” people in Riace (and around the world) are empowered to practice new relations that make older, abusive relations of power obsolete.
