A Short Film Screening: Searching for the Songs of Wanaragua
In celebration of Latinx Heritage Month, the Department of Spanish at Bryn Mawr, with the support of Africana Studies and Film Studies, extends a warm invitation to the entire BMC community to join us for a screening of the short documentary, "Searching for the Songs of Wanaragua".
The Wanaragua is an embodied performance of resilience among the Garinagu of the Caribbean coast of Central America. “Searching for the Songs of Wanaragua” is a short documentary following a Garifuna teacher and an American filmmaker as they travel across the Atlantic Coast of Honduras to record and translate Wanaragua songs to use as teaching tools to help ensure the survival of the endangered Garifuna language.
After the screening, we're hosting a conversation with the directors Eli Laban and César Vargas Sabio, moderated by Josué Chávez, Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish.
