Alexis A. Ferguson

Alexis A. Ferguson (they/them) is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Literatures in English at Bryn Mawr College. They are a scholar of nineteenth-century British and American literature and culture, gender and sexuality studies, and the history of science and medicine. Their research and teaching focus on trans studies and British and American literature from the nineteenth century through today, with emphases in the history of sex and sexuality, narrative theory, and feminist science studies. Their book project, Making Cis Sex: Sex and Narrative Form in the Trans-Atlantic Nineteenth Century, traces the formal emergence and subversion of cisgender logics within British, American, and German literary, scientific, and medical theorizations of sex difference.
