Additional Course Info Class Number: 2319 The 1960s has had a powerful effect on recent US History. But what was it exactly? How long did it last? And what do we really mean when we say “The Sixties?” This term has become so potent and loaded for so many people from all sides of the political spectrum that it’s almost impossible to separate fact from fiction; myth from memory. We are all the inheritors of this intense period in American history but our inheritance is neither simple nor entirely clear. Our task this semester is to try to pull apart the meaning as well as the legend and attempt to figure out what “The Sixties” is (and what it isn’t) and try to assess its long term impact on American society. Approach: Critical Interpretation (CI), Inquiry into the Past (IP); Haverford: B: Analysis of the Social World (B), Social Science (SO) Enrollment Cap: 30; 8 Spaces Reserved for First Year Students. If the course exceeds the enrollment cap the following criteria will be used for the lottery: First-year students; then sophomores; Junior; Seniors may not enroll in this course.
