During an eclipse, the sun is blocked by the moon and appears to be dimmer, but it is still bright enough to cause damage to your eyes. Therefore, eclipse glasses complying with ISO 12312-2 are needed for safe viewing. Sunglasses, smoked glass, unfiltered telescopes or magnifiers, and polarizing filters are unsafe for viewing.
