Bryn Mawr College and Monument Lab
In 2021, Bryn Mawr College and Monument Lab, a public art and history studio based in Philadelphia, launched a multi-year collaboration to commission a campus public artwork, informed by community engagement, that responds to the legacy of exclusionary practices at the College and contributes to community reckoning and repair.
On Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m. in the Hepburn Teaching Theater, all students, faculty, and staff are invited to an open discussion to learn: What is this collaboration? And what does it aim to do? What happened in Year One (2021-2022), where student researchers and the ML team launched an intensive community engagement process to solicit ideas about missing histories on campus? What’s next for commissioning a new campus public artwork in 2022-2023–and–how past, present, and future community input will contribute to commissioning the artwork.
Li Sumpter of Monument Lab will moderate this conversation with: Paul Farber, director and co-founder of Monument Lab; Monique Scott, associate professor of History of Art, director of Museum Studies, and co-chair of the Artist Advisory Committee; Annalise Ashman ’24, member of the 2021-2022 student research team; and the Artist Advisory Committee.
The BMC-ML Partnership Steering Group looks forward to a great discussion and your questions.
Bryn Mawr College welcomes the full participation of all individuals in all aspects of campus life. Should you wish to request a disability-related accommodation for this event, please contact the event sponsor/coordinator. Requests should be made as early as possible.
