Biography

Jodie Baird (B.A. Stanford University; Ph.D. University of Oregon) is an early childhood educator and developmental psychologist. Since 2012 she has been teaching the younger preschool class at the Phebe Anna Thorne School, the laboratory school of Bryn Mawr College. She also coordinates all student praxis placements and research at the school.

Jodie is interested in young children’s social cognition; what children understand about themselves and other people. This includes children’s thinking about moral issues and their thoughts about social categories such as gender and race. She teaches courses on these and other topics in the Psychology Department at Bryn Mawr; she is also the co-Director of the Child and Family Studies minor. Her work has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and the Spencer Foundation.
