Resume & Career Planning

Many students will be considering what kind of work they want to do in the world and how their time at Bryn Mawr can help them learn more and gain valuable experience. Students may also be eager to put what they have been learning in the classroom into practice. Reflection with our Career and Civic Engagement Center staff can help, as sophomores draft a resume and receive feedback as part of the Sophomore Plan.

Drafting the Resume for the Sophomore Plan  

The Career & Civic Engagement Center is here to support students as they develop their resume – whether they are putting their first draft together or updating an existing resume. The resume component of the Sophomore Plan will help students communicate a summary of their experiences and convey their interests. Plus, they can use their resume to apply for summer internships, research and volunteer opportunities!  

We encourage students to think broadly about the experiences they include on their resume such as volunteering, clubs and activities, jobs and internships, leadership, athletics, etc. Sophomores have engaged in more resume-worthy experiences than they think! Students who are interested in finding new opportunities can check out the Career and Civic Engagement Center website, Handshake Events, and the list of student clubs at Bryn Mawr to get started.  

Sophomore Plan Resume Review Process

You can have your resume reviewed as many times as you would like, but you only have to choose one of the three options for it to count towards the Sophomore Plan. Don't have a resume yet or want to start from scratch? No problem, we can help! Schedule an appointment with us or stop by a drop-in for assistance!

Schedule an appointment with a Career Counselor or Career Peer in Career & Civic Engagement Center anytime throughout the 206-2027 Academic Year prior to the last day of classes by selecting the following appointment types:

  • Resume/CV Appointment
  • Sophomore Plan Resume Review Appointment
  • Resumania Appointment (only available during Resumania in late October & early November)

New this year: Upload a link to your resume document! 

  • You will receive an email from Handshake saying that you have been invited to take a survey on Handshake. 
  • Click the link to take the survey or navigate to Career Center -> Survey 

Once you select the survey, you will see a survey entitled "Sophomore Plan Resume Review" with the following instructions: 

  • Upload a link to your resume for the Sophomore Plan Resume Review here. 
  •  Once submitted, Career Peers (Student Employees of the Career & Civic Engagement Center) will review your resumes and provide comments.  
  • Please make sure the link to your document is viewable to anyone with access to the link. We will create a copy of your document and return it to you with comments.  

Completing this survey will fulfill the Resume Review component of the Sophomore Plan!

Be on the lookout for pop-up events over the course of the year where we advertise onsite resume reviews such as the Prep Rally, Dorm Hangouts, Drop-ins and more! Be sure to let the Career Peer or Career Counselor know that you would like this meeting to count toward your Sophomore Plan Resume Review so that we can make sure you receive credit!

Connect with Alums! 

  • As you think about exploring academic majors, pursuing internships, or getting more civically involved, a wonderful approach is to talk to alumnae/i! Alums in Mawrter Connect are eager to share their stories, experiences and advice with you. 
  • Attend alumnae/i chats to connect with alums who are excited to share their experiences with students; check out the schedule in Handshake. 
  • Apply for an externship to shadow an alum at their job during winter and spring breaks and get a firsthand glimpse into a field of interest; look for application details in Handshake later this year. 

There are many people on campus available to talk with you about your interests including your dean, major adviser, professors and the Career and Civic Engagement Center. To meet with a career counselor in Career Engagement, schedule an appointment in Handshake.
