Campus Safety Social Work Care Specialist
Bryn Mawr College has an opening for a Campus Safety Social Work Care Specialist.
THE POSITION
The Campus Safety department works to ensure the safety and security of the students, faculty, staff, and visitors on Bryn Mawr College’s campus as well as protect their belongings and the College’s buildings and other physical assets. Campus Safety provides 24-hour, 7-day per week, year-round service for the campus, including being first responders to all emergency calls.
The College is looking for a social worker or like-qualified professional to fill the position of Campus Safety Social Work Care Specialist. Among the responsibilities of the role are: creating structures, proving training, and mediating when necessary to resolve student conflict, particularly with and among students on campus; conducting wellness checks and responding to calls from students who are feeling emotionally/mentally unstable and connecting them with other College resources; conceptualizing and organizing meetings/activities/communication with the goal of the mutual respect between Campus Safety department and the rest of the campus community; being an internal expert who will be a source for suggested change in the approach to the department’s work by incorporating trauma-informed and de-escalation practices; and providing training for the staff and others on campus on topics like engagement techniques, communication skills, emotional intelligence, recognizing suicidal ideation, and stress management.
This position will most frequently work from 4 pm to midnight, 5 days/week (often to include weekends). A valid driver’s license, COVID vaccination, ability to reach all areas of campus and its buildings and a high level of integrity, professionalism, and good judgment are required.
We are looking for someone with bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited program or a minimum experience of three (3) years of relevant experience (e.g., mental health and other forms of crisis health response), the ability to obtain and maintain clear reports for Pennsylvania Act 153 Child Abuse Clearances, a valid driver’s license. Must have or be willing to get and maintain First Aid, AED, and CPR certification
Preferred Qualifications include: master’s degree in social work or a closely related field, an understanding of and appreciation for restorative justice initiatives, prior experience in a higher education environment or work with students and student groups, multi-lingual.
