Abstract:
The vehicle with which I study algebraic geometry is called the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on a variety. Together, we will explore what 'algebraic geometry' is, what derived categories are, and why I like to think about them. We will pursue this with an eye towards studying the extent to which the derived category can be used to determine when a variety defined over an arbitrary field has points. No prior knowledge of any of these topics is expected.
