As Korean culture continues to gain global visibility, this event takes a step back from K-pop and K-dramas to focus on something closer to home, how globalization actually shapes academic life. We’ll hear from Korean faculty across disciplines as they share how they navigate questions of identity, belonging, and responsibility while teaching and researching in a globalized environment. Through their experiences, we will learn more about the concept of glocalization, a term used when local identities, such as cultural characteristics from local backgrounds expand in this globalizing world. Our professors will specifically be discussing how their Korean cultural background has been shaped and molded during their times in a foreign country. We hope that many students, Korean or not, will be able to find these conversations helpful in understanding how local identities are shaped throughout interactions, circumstances, and experiences. You do not have to be Korean identifying to relate to how culture is shaped in global society! So please bring anyone who may be interested in learning more about glocal cultures around our academic campus.
