Online Teaching Institute: Frequently Asked Questions

What was the Online Teaching Institute? 

The Online Teaching Institute was geared toward supporting faculty in designing effective learning experiences for online or hybrid environments during the COVID-19 pandemic. It provided an opportunity for faculty to join their colleagues in reflecting on the best ways to create meaningful online courses for both students and instructors.  

How did it work? 

Offered at various times throughout the summer of 2020, the Online Teaching Institute engaged participants in hands-on, supported practice aimed at designing key elements of an online or hybrid course. Faculty moved together as a cohort through the Institute’s modules, with many opportunities to share, connect, and receive feedback on their course designs, planned assessments, learning materials, and use of available technologies.  

Who participated? 

Both faculty with and without online learning experience participated in the Institute. Those designing an online or hybrid course for the first time had the opportunity to devise, create, and reflect on their work. At the same time, the institute helped faculty with more experience further improve their online course offerings. 

Can I still access the Institute's session?

Who led and designed the Institute's facilitators?

The Online Teaching Institute was led by Chris Boyland, Maria Ocando Finol, Alex Pfundt, and Gina Siesing. Assistant Professor Tamarah Moss was part of the Institute's design team. All members brought significant experience designing online learning experiences.
