Mary Beth Horvath began advising students as a graduate assistant at Syracuse University. She joined Bryn Mawr in 2002 after spending a few years working at Virginia Commonwealth University and Cabrini University. Dean Horvath received her doctorate from Widener University focusing her research on alcohol consumption and role stress, conflict, and ambiguity in college student paraprofessionals. These topics are still of interest today and she provides alcohol, other drug, hazing, and bystander education to undergraduate students. In addition, she plans Customs New Student Orientation and THRIVE, advises Traditions, and oversees Student Engagement and New Student Programs. She works closely with Student Engagement and New Student Programs Coordinators on programming for the campus community.
