Information for Academic Year 2023-2024
Dear Students,
Welcome to the department of History of Art. We have collected here all the information you need to explore the History of Art major and minor. If you have questions after exploring the links, please don’t hesitate to be in touch.
Our major and minor requirements are listed on our department website. For questions about the major or minor, or to declare and complete a workplan, please contact Professor Alicia Walker, the current Director of Undergraduate Studies.
A list of Bryn Mawr courses that are pre-approved to count toward the major and minor is posted on our website. All History of Art courses at the 100 and 200-level are suitable for first year students and/or those with no prior History of Art experience, whereas 300-level seminars are more appropriate for juniors and seniors with some prior experience. For questions about specific courses, please contact the instructor directly. A list of our faculty and staff and their profiles can be found here. Note that courses at Haverford, Swarthmore, and the University of Pennsylvania can count toward the major but are not listed in the Bryn Mawr course catalog; contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies for more information about courses beyond Bryn Mawr that count toward the History of Art major and minor.
Our senior thesis titles from years past will give you a sense of the kind of research our students pursue.
We hope you will attend our upcoming major/minor information session to learn more about our Department.
If you have questions about this website or administrative matters, or if you would like to be added to the listserv for History of Art email notices, please contact our Administrative Assistant Margaret Kelly.
