Assistant Professor of History
The Department of History at Bryn Mawr College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in African American History in the Long Nineteenth Century (1783-1917) to begin August 1, 2026. The successful candidate will have areas of research and a teaching focus in African American social, political, intellectual, and/or cultural history, with a robust research agenda and the ability to offer courses that enhance the department’s existing curriculum. Candidates must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in History or affiliated interdisciplinary fields (e.g., African American Studies or American Studies) by the start date.
To apply for this position, candidates must submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a research statement, a writing sample of chapter or article length, a statement of teaching philosophy, and two sample syllabi (one for an intermediate thematic course and one for an advanced topical course in the field) to the History Department Search Committee via Interfolio. In addition, candidates should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted via Interfolio to the History Department Search Committee.
