Become a Fellow

The STEMLA admissions process begins each Spring.

Students admitted to Bryn Mawr College, whose applications indicate they meet the eligibility criteria, will be invited to apply to the program.

Program Eligibility

Applicants must:

  •   Be a limited income student
  •   Demonstrate a strong interest in majoring in a STEM discipline
  •   Be a US citizen, permanent resident, US national or admitted refugee NOTE: non-US citizens can be considered for a limited number of spots

Preference will be given to students with a strong interest in the following majors: biology, chemistry, computer science, geology, mathematics, physics, and biochemistry.

The STEMLA program is funded to serve 20 students per academic year.

Admission, Applications, and Interviews

Admitted students that meet the above eligibility will be invited to apply to the program via email. Included in this email will be a simple application. Applications will open the same day invitations are sent out to admitted students. The deadline to apply to the STEMLA program is in mid-May.

Each Spring, after invitations have been sent to eligible students, the program will host a series of virtual information sessions. These information sessions are meant to provide additional information, introduce you to current Fellows and program staff, and to answer any specific questions about the program.

The dates and zoom links for the information sessions will be included in the initial STEMLA invitation.

After the application deadline, the STEMLA team will reach out to students to set up a short virtual Zoom interview.

These interviews will be scheduled by the STEMLA Assistant Director. We will do our best to accommodate schedules and time zones.

Final STEMLA admissions decisions will be sent out at the end of May or early June. Additional information regarding the summer program will be sent to selected Fellows in mid to late June.

Income status is determined by the individual student’s Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) as calculated by Bryn Mawr’s Office of Financial Aid.

Applications open on the same day that the invitation to the STEMLA program is sent out in the early Spring. Applications are typically due in mid-May.

Following the close of the application in mid-May, the STEMLA team will be in contact via email to set up a time for an interview. These interviews will take place in the early evening to accommodate school schedules.

You will be directly notified via email of your selection no later than the first week of June. Following your notice of admissions, you will receive additional logistical information from the STEMLA team regarding your participation in the summer program.

Yes, you will be notified via email if you are not selected for the STEMLA program.
