How We Keep Campus Safe

Our campus safety team utilizes a combination of technology, trained personnel, and established systems to protect our campus community — and to provide assistance to you quickly when needed. We take the safety of our community seriously and are undertaking a multi-phase project beginning in fall 2025 to update and strengthen campus safety systems. These upgrades include:

  • Updated and expanded card-access systems for campus buildings
  • Upgrade and addition of campus safety cameras in high-traffic or public areas and on new emergency call boxes
  • Replacement of older emergency call boxes with new, more visible models

These improvements enhance safety while preserving the trust and privacy that are central to campus life. As work progresses, the community will be kept informed about developments and any anticipated disruptions.

2025 messages to the campus about the campus safety systems project were released on December 17, November 21, and September 4.

View each section below for the latest information on the resources we use to keep the community safe. Information updated on 12/16/2025.

Security Cameras and Privacy

Security Cameras are not placed in residence hall rooms, bathrooms, private offices, or other private spaces.

No AI or automated monitoring

Our cameras do not use artificial intelligence or any form of automated monitoring technology. Video footage is securely archived and only accessed by authorized personnel to support investigations of suspected criminal activity or policy violations that threaten campus safety or property.

When footage may be reviewed

Video is reviewed only in connection with reported incidents that may involve criminal activity or policy violations affecting campus safety or property. Depending on the nature of the case, footage may be reviewed by the appropriate College offices or authorities responsible for investigating such matters, and it is handled under the same privacy and evidentiary standards as all other forms of investigation.

Blue-light emergency call boxes are located throughout campus and provide a direct, immediate line to Campus Safety. As part of the safety upgrade project, older call boxes are being replaced with newer models that improve visibility and reliability. Each call box will include:

  • A clearly marked button that connects directly to the Campus Safety dispatcher on duty
  • A bright blue light visible at night
  • Location information transmitted automatically to help responders reach the caller quickly
  • An integrated security camera

Campus Safety conducts routine lighting audits and works with Facilities to maintain well-lit pathways. Patrol strategies include:

  • Foot patrols
  • Vehicle patrols
  • Building walkthroughs

The College contracts with Main Line Protection Services to provide additional patrol and event staffing.

These efforts help create a campus environment that supports both safety and accessibility.

Bryn Mawr uses a multi-channel alert system—including text messages, email, voice calls, indoor/outdoor speakers, and website alerts—to share time-sensitive information.

Campus Safety works closely with local police, fire, and EMS, and regularly participates in campus drills and training to maintain readiness.

Your role: Update your emergency contact information in BIONIC or contact Human Resources for the appropriate form. Review the College’s emergency procedures each semester.
